Geneva Family Taxi with Child Seats — Safe Transfers from CHF 100
Travelling through Geneva with small children is a logistics puzzle. You need the right car seat for each age, enough room for a pram and luggage, a driver who does not drive like he is late for his next ride, and a pickup time that actually matches your flight. Our Geneva family taxi service is built around those constraints. Every vehicle carries rear-facing, forward-facing and booster seats on request, at no extra charge, and every driver is trained to install them properly.
This page covers what we carry, how to book the right seat, safety standards, pricing and the practical details — car seat installation, unaccompanied-minor policy, pram and stroller handling, and the difference with a standard metered taxi for families.
Swiss law on child seats in a taxi
Switzerland requires an appropriate restraint for every child under 12 years or under 150 cm in height, in every passenger vehicle including taxis. Since 2010 the rule aligns with ECE R44 and ECE R129 (i-Size) standards. In practice:
- 0–12 months / under 13 kg: rear-facing infant carrier (Group 0+)
- 9 months – 4 years / 9–18 kg: forward-facing toddler seat with 5-point harness (Group 1)
- 4–7 years / 15–25 kg: high-back booster with adult seat belt (Group 2)
- 7–12 years / up to 36 kg or 150 cm: booster cushion (Group 3)
Fines for non-compliance start at CHF 60 per child and can reach CHF 250 plus one point on the driver’s licence. A taxi driver is legally responsible for checking seat use before moving. Our policy is strict: we do not leave the kerb until every child is restrained in a compliant seat.

Which vehicle for a family?
Mercedes E-Class — family of 3
Two adults and one child with a seat. Trunk fits two large suitcases plus a pram. Good for airport runs when you travel light, or when only one parent is travelling with a child.
Mercedes V-Class — family of 4 to 7
Two adults and up to five children, or two families travelling together. Trunk takes 5–6 large suitcases plus pram and skis. Sliding doors on both sides make car-seat loading easier in narrow Geneva streets. Individual climate zones, reading lights for each seat, 4G Wi-Fi — holds up well on a 4-hour drive to Courchevel or Zermatt.
Mercedes S-Class — VIP family of 3
When discretion matters — media, diplomats, high-profile visitors travelling with one child. Heated rear seats, privacy glass, panoramic roof. One rear-facing or forward-facing seat fits centre-rear. Not recommended for more than one child due to rear bench geometry.
Booking a family taxi — what to tell us
- Number and age of children — we match each to the right seat group
- Weight of each child if close to a group boundary (9 kg, 18 kg, 25 kg, 36 kg)
- Pram / stroller: folding or not, number of wheels, and whether it goes in the trunk or stays as a car-seat in the cabin
- Special needs: disability seat, wheelchair-accessible vehicle, medical equipment
- Preferred language of the driver if the child travels alone or with grandparents who don’t speak French
Book through the booking form or contact dispatch on +41 22 518 08 08. Provide flight number if the family is arriving at GVA — flight tracking adjusts pickup if the flight is late, which matters more with tired children on a long-haul arrival.
Unaccompanied minors (UM)
We transport unaccompanied minors aged 8 and over under strict conditions. The booking must be placed by a legal guardian, with signed authorisation covering the specific route, date and driver. Pickup and drop-off require a named adult to hand over and receive the child, with a photo ID check on both sides. A copy of the child’s passport or ID card stays with dispatch for the duration of the trip.
The most common use is picking up a child from GVA after an airline’s unaccompanied-minor service, then driving to a boarding school in the canton or in Vaud. We coordinate with the airline’s UM desk at the terminal — our driver is allowed as far as baggage claim with the right paperwork. Common routes: GVA → Le Rosey (Rolle), GVA → Aiglon (Chesières), GVA → International School of Geneva (La Grande Boissière, La Châtaigneraie, Campus des Nations).
Ski transfers with kids
Families doing a ski week in Megève, Verbier, Chamonix or Zermatt often overpack. We expect it. A standard V-Class ski run carries: 4 to 6 suitcases, 2 to 6 pairs of skis or snowboards, 2 to 4 helmet bags, one or two prams, boosters or forward-facing seats for the children. Snow chains are on board from 1 November to 30 April, winter tyres mandatory. Drivers know the approach to every major resort — where to drop near the door of your chalet, where the shuttle stops start in Zermatt (Täsch), where the Verbier road narrows above Le Châble.

Frequently Asked Questions — Family Taxi Geneva
Are child seats really free?
Yes, always. Rear-facing infant carriers, forward-facing toddler seats, high-back boosters and booster cushions are included in the fixed price. Tell us the age and weight of each child at booking and we fit the correct seat. No extra charge, no deposit.
Can I bring my own child seat?
Of course. Some families prefer their own seat for continuity with the child. The driver helps install it and checks the belt routing. Bring the base for ISOFIX seats if needed.
How many children can fit in a Mercedes V-Class?
Up to five children plus two adults, with each child in an age-appropriate seat. The V-Class has seven seats in the standard configuration; removing the rear bench gives extra luggage space for ski trips and long holidays. Twin car seats fit side by side; a third car seat fits in the front passenger position if the airbag is deactivated.
Is there a minimum child age to travel in a taxi without a seat?
No. Swiss law applies the seat requirement up to 12 years old or 150 cm in height, whichever comes first. A 12-year-old at 155 cm can use the regular seat belt alone. A 10-year-old at 140 cm needs a booster cushion.
Do you accept newborns on the day they come home from the hospital?
Yes — this is a routine booking. Rear-facing infant carrier (Maxi-Cosi), direct route, no excessive speed, and we can stop on request if the mother needs a break. Book at least 24 hours ahead so we allocate the right driver (our senior rotation handles hospital pickups).
What if my child gets car-sick?
Tell us at booking. The driver carries sick bags and wet wipes, and on longer trips to ski resorts we build in a 10-minute stop around the halfway point (Martigny for Valais, Sallanches for Chamonix/Megève, Albertville for the Tarentaise). If the child is sick in the car, there is no cleaning surcharge for normal occurrences.
Can my child travel alone with the driver?
Yes, from age 8 and with written authorisation from a legal guardian. See the unaccompanied-minor section above for the full protocol. For children under 8, a responsible adult must be in the car.
Is the V-Class better than two E-Class taxis for a family of 6?
Usually yes. A V-Class at CHF 130 airport → centre is cheaper than two E-Class at CHF 100 each (CHF 200 total), keeps the family together, holds more luggage and has the sliding doors. Two E-Class cars only make sense if your party needs to split (two different drop-offs) or if the V-Class is not available at the time you need.
Can I book a family transfer for a late-night arrival at GVA?
Yes — our service runs 24/7 with the same flat prices day and night. See Geneva night taxi for the details on late-arrival handling and flight tracking after midnight.
Do you do school-run transport for the International School of Geneva?
Yes, on a corporate or private account for Campus des Nations, La Grande Boissière and La Châtaigneraie, as well as Collège du Léman, Institut Florimont and Le Rosey. For regular daily service we set up a dedicated driver and a fixed monthly rate — see Geneva corporate transport or email dispatch.
