Why take a long-distance taxi
Train or flight cancelled
Strikes on the SNCF (French rail), Lufthansa Group industrial actions, volcanic ash, Italian baggage handlers — Europe’s transport network has a way of failing at the worst moment. When you need to be in Milan for a 09:00 meeting and the TGV to Paris has been cancelled overnight, a 04:00 Mercedes from your hotel gets you there. We pick up within 2 hours of the call.
Heavy luggage or equipment
Art dealers moving a case to a gallery in Paris, film crews with cameras, musicians with instruments, medical specialists with kit — the V-Class’s 4.5 m³ of cargo space and the driver’s ability to go directly to the destination (not a station two tram stops away) is often the deciding factor. No risk of a baggage handler dropping a cello.
Door to door with family
A family of 5 doing Geneva → Como for a weekend on the lake: the V-Class at CHF 1,080 for 5 people is competitive with 5 train tickets in first class plus a taxi at each end, without the luggage drama at Porta Garibaldi. And the kids can sleep. See our Geneva family taxi with child seats page for seat options on long rides.
Business travel with multiple stops
Executive going Geneva → Lyon (client A) → Milan (client B) → back to Geneva in one day is feasible with a dedicated driver and a V-Class set up as a mobile office. Wi-Fi, rear table, silent ride. Ten hours with a Mercedes costs less than two business-class flights plus airport taxis.
What’s included in the long-distance price
- All motorway tolls (Swiss vignette CHF 40, French A40/A6 tolls ~CHF 80 to Paris, Italian A5 Mont-Blanc tunnel ~CHF 60, German autobahns free)
- Fuel from Geneva to the destination
- Driver hours and rest-stop costs
- Bottled water, phone chargers, Wi-Fi in the V-Class and S-Class
- Up to 60 minutes of waiting at pickup (e.g. for a late flight arrival)
- Up to 2 planned stops on the route for rest or photo (additional stops CHF 20 each)
- VAT 8.1 % (Swiss) or reverse-charge VAT for qualifying corporate clients
Key routes in detail
Geneva → Paris (540 km, 5h30)
Via A40 Bourg-en-Bresse → A6 through Burgundy. Single rest stop at Aire de Beaune (excellent lunch option). Traffic: usually free-flowing, except Friday afternoon southbound and Sunday evening northbound. Drop-off anywhere in Paris — Etoile, Concorde, St-Germain, La Défense, airport CDG or Orly. Expect 6 hours door-to-door with buffer.
Geneva → Milan (370 km, 4h)
Via A40 to Chamonix → Mont-Blanc Tunnel → A5 Aosta valley → A4 Turin-Milan. The Mont-Blanc Tunnel toll is CHF 60 (included). Stunning route with the tunnel itself and the descent into the Aosta valley. Winter conditions possible November to April: snow chains on board, driver experienced in Alpine driving. We arrive at Milan Centrale, Porta Garibaldi, MXP airport, Linate airport or any hotel address.
Geneva → Zurich (280 km, 2h45)
Via A1 through Bern. One of the most-used corporate routes between the French and German Swiss business hubs. Drop-off in Paradeplatz, Bahnhofstrasse, ETH, Glattpark (airport hotels), ZRH airport. Train is fast (2h45 via Intercity) and usually the right choice unless you travel with a group or heavy luggage.
Geneva → Nice / Monaco (590 km, 5h45)
Via A40 → A7 Rhône valley → A8 Provence. A lovely drive in good weather, especially the stretch from Aix-en-Provence eastwards. Typical uses: weekend in Saint-Tropez, summer house in Cap Ferrat, Monaco Grand Prix weekend. Monaco pickups require advance notice of the specific tower or villa — the city is a maze with restricted access for non-resident vehicles.
Driver protocol on long rides
- Rest stop every 2 hours minimum by law (EU driver-hours regulation) — usually 10 minutes at a motorway service area
- Maximum 9 hours of driving per day per driver — for routes over 9 hours (Geneva → Barcelona, Geneva → Berlin) we either use two drivers or plan an overnight stop
- One dedicated driver for the full round trip when possible — continuity matters for corporate clients
- Driver hotel: for overnight returns we book the driver into a 3★ hotel near the destination; cost included in the return-trip quote
Border and paperwork
Switzerland is in the Schengen area for passport-free movement, but it is outside the EU customs union. In practice: no systematic passport check at Swiss-French, Swiss-German, Swiss-Italian or Swiss-Austrian borders, but random customs stops on the way back into Switzerland. Travel with your ID or passport — Swiss law requires it for non-residents. Our drivers are trained on what to declare and what paperwork to keep (especially for corporate clients transporting equipment or samples).
ATA carnet for samples, T2L documents, commercial invoices — we can route paperwork through your forwarder. Ask dispatch at booking.

Frequently Asked Questions — Long Distance Transfer Geneva
Is the price the same if there is traffic or a motorway closure?
Yes. Our rate is flat. A detour via Bourg-en-Bresse instead of Lyon because of an accident on the A6 does not change what you pay. Only a route that adds more than 100 km because of a regional closure (e.g. Mont-Blanc Tunnel shut for several days) would trigger a re-quote — and we would inform you before departure, not on arrival.
Can the driver do the round trip in the same day?
Depends on distance. For Geneva → Lyon → Geneva (300 km round trip, 4 hours driving) yes, easily. For Geneva → Milan → Geneva (740 km, 8 hours driving) it’s possible with mandatory rest breaks but tight. For Geneva → Paris → Geneva (1,080 km, 11 hours) we use two drivers or plan an overnight. We quote both options.
Is the Mont-Blanc Tunnel toll included for Italy routes?
Yes. All tolls on the itinerary are part of the quoted price — the Mont-Blanc Tunnel (CHF 60) to Italy, French A6/A40 tolls (CHF 60–80) to Paris, Italian autostrada tolls. You do not pay anything at the booth.
How much luggage fits in a V-Class for a Geneva → Barcelona trip?
Comfortably 6 large suitcases (75 cm), 4 carry-ons, 2 ski bags if relevant, and space for jackets and a cooler. Up to 7 passengers with the standard seating. If you’re moving house-worth of items, mention it at booking — we may recommend a van (Sprinter) over a V-Class for pure cargo capacity.
Can I have a driver who speaks Italian for the Milan route?
Yes — our Milan rotation is Italian-speaking by default. We also have Spanish speakers for Barcelona runs, German for Munich/Frankfurt routes. Mention the preference at booking and we assign accordingly.
What about pets on a long trip?
Accepted on request: pets in a travel box (required for cats and small dogs), large dogs on a rear seat with protective cover. We do not charge extra for pets, but we ask you to let us know at booking so we assign a vehicle that has the protective cover pre-installed.
Can you pick me up at Paris CDG and drive me back to Geneva?
Yes. We also pre-position in Paris for pickups — fixed price CHF 1,400 CDG → Geneva airport or Geneva centre in a Mercedes E-Class. Same flight tracking, same meet & greet with a name sign in arrivals.
Is a long-distance taxi more expensive than a flight for a solo traveler?
Often yes — a flight Geneva → Paris is CHF 150–300 with luggage. The taxi is CHF 1,400. For a solo traveller with time flexibility, the flight is cheaper. The taxi makes sense with 3+ passengers, heavy luggage, medical reasons, cancelled flights, or a client who values door-to-door discretion over raw cost.
Can I book the return for the same driver?
Yes, when feasible. For 1-to-3 day trips the same driver stays with the vehicle at your destination (hotel booked, daily rate charged for standby if applicable). For longer trips the driver returns and we send a fresh driver for your return — continuity is broken but the vehicle class stays the same.
Do you offer multi-city European trips?
Yes — Geneva → Lyon → Milan → Venice → Munich → Zurich → Geneva in 8 days, for example, with a dedicated driver for the whole trip. Commonly booked for luxury travel agents, family multi-generational trips and film location scouts. Quote on request through contact.
